WHO WE ARE

The Art Story is a New York-based educational 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2009 to demystify Modern Art and further art appreciation.

The Art Story's vision is a world where the ideas and aspirations behind the wondrous art works are accessible to everyone to explore and be inspired by. TheArtStory.Org helps millions of people each year understand and enjoy every style of art from Classical to Conceptual and Digital art.

Why The Art Story

1. Quality of Content - We are proud to have highly experienced writers, usually PhDs or field experts, writing and editing our content.

2. Consistency of Content - From one page to the next, we maintain a high level of consistency that can only be found in an encyclopedia-type of resource. Once you get used to how our pages are organized, you can learn about art with ease!

3. The Joy of Art - We all want to enjoy art, and we want to understand what we are looking at. We don't want to be bogged down by longwinded art jargon. We offer eloquent overview pages - not technical, over-cited content.

4. Sheer Size - TheArtStory.Org now has the equivalent of 9,000 written pages of art content, and we are growing every week. No printed book can compete with this amount of information. The web is a powerful delivery mechanism, if organized and presented wisely.

From the Founder

"After developing a serious interest in understanding and appreciating Modern Art, I found the available sources of information far too limited. Many excellent art books are too narrow in their scope, and are hard to reconcile with each other. On the internet, it was nearly impossible to find quality information organized in a consistent manner."

Michael Zurakhinsky - Founder and President

"I believe a good resource can help us address all these issues, and bring art education into the 21st century. The Arts are all about the ideas that should be exposed to the world, and this website and the organization as a whole strive to achieve this goal."
- Michael Zurakhinsky

Ideas that Inspire Us:

"I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over cities, we too will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit." - John F. Kennedy

"The best piety is to enjoy - when you can. You are doing the most then to save the earth's character as an agreeable planet. And enjoyment radiates." Middlemarch - George Eliot

"Art is a nation's most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and to others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish." - Lyndon Johnson

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." - Walden by Henry David Thoreau

"Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere." - Albert Einstein

"Beauty is everywhere, in the arrangement of saucepans on the white walls of your kitchen, perhaps more than in your eighteenth-century salon or in official museums." - Fernand Léger
